Girl Tech is a program for young women of color in New Mexico. This year-long program includes media justice training, reproductive justice training, and training in media production and storytelling. The participants learn media literacy skills by deconstructing media messages and focusing on reproductive justice issues such as comprehensive sex education, parenting, and healthcare access. They learn how to conduct interviews, write scripts, operate cameras and microphones, and edit video in order to tell their own story on a reproductive justice issue that connects to their own lives. At the end of the program year they participate in a screening party to showcase their work. Girl Tech is currently funded by the Groundswell Catalyst Fund.
