Girl Tech Collective
Girl Tech Collective is a program for young women of color in New Mexico. This year-long program includes media justice training, reproductive justice training, and an introduction to strategic communications. The participants learn media literacy skills by deconstructing media messages and focusing on reproductive justice issues such as comprehensive sex education, violence prevention, healthcare access, immigration justice, environmental justice, and economic justice. They also learn media production skills including how to conduct interviews, operate cameras and microphones, and edit video. Throughout the course of the program year, the Girl Tech participants plan a strategy for incorporating reproductive justice into their organization's projects and programs, create videos for messaging on this strategy, and participate in a community event to showcase their work. Girl Tech Collective is funded by New Mexico Community Foundation and Third Wave Foundation.
