Digital Justice for Us

Digital Justice for Us was a 2009 youth initiative that partnered with urban youth from various organizations across Albuquerque to address media justice issues in New Mexico by creating media for community power and policy change. DJ4Us taught media production skills to young people in preparation to collect audio and video stories from rural youth across our state.

The Digital Justice for Us program was initiated in response to the widening divide New Mexicans face in terms of access to broadband (high speed internet). Five Albuquerque youth from Albuquerque Partnership, Young Women United, Media Arts Collaborative Charter School, and Native American Community Academy collected video stories from rural youth lacking access to broadband in order to inform the Federal Communications Commission’s National Broadband Plan. The DJ4Us internet stories available on MLP's YouTube channel were submitted as public comment to the FCC to support a free and open internet.

Digital Justice for Us was funded in part by New Mexico Community Foundation’s Youth Initiative.
