Los medios y la salud is a resource on media literacy skills that examines the impact of tobacco, alcohol, and food marketing on Latino health and culture. It includes a discussion and activities guide on media literacy concepts and messages on marketing, health, and culture.
Los medios y la salud has been designed for presentations and discussions in classrooms, community organizations, professional development trainings, and other group settings. It can be used with learners age 12 through adults. Depending on discussion, this presentation can be delivered in 60 to 90 minutes.
What’s on the DVD?
- 32 media examples that include documentary clips, TV commercials, and still images.
- A printable discussion guide you can use to lead a conversation about the media examples on the disc. It includes questions, answers, and suggestions for the presentation, as well as activities, education standards, and resources.
- Learners will:
- Analyze the form and content of advertisements.
- Understand the impact of tobacco, alcohol, and food marketing on Latino health and culture.
- Deconstruct media messages to gain a deeper understanding of marketing to niche communities and to make positive health decisions.
Media examples are captioned and the discussion guide is available in large print.
